How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Ingredients for Tawa Pulao-SK Khazana Recipe

  • Rice cooked 3 cups
  • Oil 2 tablespoons
  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  • Green chillies finely chopped 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger finely chopped 1/2 teaspoon
  • Medium onion finely chopped 1
  • Red chilli paste 1 tablespoon
  • Tomato puree 4 tablespoons
  • Medium tomatoes finely chopped 2
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon
  • Pav bhaji masala 1 tablespoon
  • Green peas boiled and crushed 2 tablespoons
  • Green capsicum finely chopped 1 tablespoon
  • Butter 1 tablespoon
  • Lemon juice 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh coriander leaves finely chopped 1 tablespoon

Method

Step 1

Heat oil on a non-stick tawa. Add cumin seeds and sauté till the seeds change colour.

Step 2

Add green chillies, garlic, ginger and onions, mix and sauté well pressing lightly with a masher. Add red chilli paste and mix well with the masher.

Step 3

Add tomato puree and tomatoes and mix with the masher. Add salt, mix and cook for 1-2 minutes.

Step 4

Add chilli powder and pav bhaji masala, mix and cook for a minute. Add green peas and capsicum, mash and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Step 5

Add rice and mix well. Add butter, mix and let it melt. Add lemon juice and coriander leaves and mix well.

Step 6

Serve hot.
